El Castillo was located on a hill west of the Monterey harbor located on todays Lower Presidio
Old earthworks unsuccessfully defined on November 20th of 1818 by a small Spanish garrison against Hiplito de Bouchard's with two piratical vessels flying the flag of Argentina. The attacking force then looted the Pueblo of Monterey.
With the Monterey Purse seiner Fishing fleet at anchor in the harbor.
