The light of deep winter is a pale light.

The sun rises late and sets early, and in its course through the day, it does not rise high in the sky. Depending upon how far north, or south, one lives, the winter sun almost sighs as it takes its daily course.

But light, all light, is beautiful. It is perhaps most especially so when darkness predominates, when the air is cold, when the surrounding landscape is bereft of green grass and colorful flowers.

In winter, in fact.

The artwork, Winter Light, invites the viewer to step into just such a winter landscape, deep in the rural country where there are fields instead of parking lots. Snow blankets the ground, untouched by human feet but maybe traversed, lightly, by those of wildlife.

Set against the white of the snow, the blue sky resonates azure. The shadows themselves are blue, striped within the white. Trees and bushes bereft of leaves add their own unique color – browns and tans, rusts and even orang...

I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought.
