This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks

Artist's Description

El Cuartel was built by Don Jose Abrego in the early 1840’s and an elongated two‐story adobe, for the Mexican government as soldiers’ barracks. It was on California Street (now Munras Avenue.
It was American headquarters after the 1846 occupation of Monterey. Here, too, the first issues of the first newspaper were printed in California. When demolished in 1910, El Cuartel’s adobe bricks were used to fill in portions of Hartnell Gulch in the late 1880’s.
Jane Bushton Allen first wooden frame house at Munras & Webster Streets in Monterey, can be seen at the end of the street.
