Point Arena Lighthouse is part of the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands, a California National Monument, set up by President Obama in 2004. It covers over 20,000 islands, reefs, and rocks offshore. Onshore, there is over 1660 acres of land, coastline, and an estuary. Point Arena Lighthouse is part of this monument. It sits on the point of a half mile long promontory, or sandbar, which is a natural hazard to ships.
